Today’s Gospel Reading: Luke 7:11-17 -TWENTY-FOURTH WEEK OF THE YEAR: Tuesday, 18 September 2018
The ministry of Jesus is seen at its most dramatic in His raising a dead boy to life and comforting a widow’s grief. In doing so, Jesus touched the bier (cf Numbers 19:11, where such an action causes ritual uncleanness).
There are many ways of bringing new life to those who seem dead. Essentially, this is one way that the Church continue the work of Jesus. She tries to revive hope, faith and love in situations and among people that have forgotten the power of such virtues or think them to be merely childhood illusions.
To the extent that the Church can exhibit the life and vitality of the Lord in her own ranks, she gives powerful witness to the fact that life is stronger than death and love is stronger than hate.
The various ministries and gifts we share combine to breathe new life into our parish community.
