Saint Charles Borromeo was born in Arona in Lombardy in the year 1538. After obtaining his doctorate in both civil and canon law he was created a cardinal by his uncle Pope Pius IV and was chosen to be bishop of Milan. He became a true shepherd of his flock and frequently went around his diocese, called synodes, made wise regulations for the good of souls, and worked for the good of Christian morality. He died on 3 November in the year 1584.
Prayer: Lord, keep alive in Your people the spirit You gave to Your bishop Saint Charles Borromeo. Shape and renew Your Church until it bears the image of Christ, and shows His true likeness to the world. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
