Gospel Reading: Matthew 11:16-19

“To what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.’ Faor John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, ‘Look, He is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is vindicated by her works.” (Matthew 11:16-19 NAB)

PRAYER: Jesus, You said, “Wisdom is vindicated by her works” (Matthew 11:19). This means that the righteousness and justice of God are proved to be true whenever Your people take Your ways seriously and follow You. As we allow You, dear Jesus, to have dominion over each of us and trust in Your provision, we will know peace. As we recognize how sin and selfishness are at the root of all the suffering in the world, we will begin to see the same things moving in our own hearts and realize how they are at the root of the problems we face. And this knowledge will lead us to a deeper, more humble obedience.

Jesus, You have come to set us free. You offer us all we need to be free from sin and anger and hurt. All You ask is that we listen to Your word and seek Your Spirit’s help in our attempts to obey You. We will always turn to You, and every time we find ourselves turning away from You, we will turn back. We know that we will always find You waiting there with arms wide open to receive us again. As we reach out to You more and more, we will see God using each of us to pour out His Spirit on everyone around us.

Jesus, You are wonderful! We want to know You more. We want to give You  our whole lives, we want to ask You to help us walk with You and keep us coming back to You whenever we stray. Amen.
