LIFE IS A SCHOOL OF CHRISTIAN PERFECTION

dorothy_day-2ENTRY into human life is entering into the school of Christian perfection. Just like scholars entering a school are not perfect, but are desiring, aiming at and striving for perfection in studies, so every man entering upon human life is expected by his Maker to enter upon a course of Christian perfection, which must end only with his death upon earth.

Life is a race unto perfection, and not all win the crown, because not all steadily desire perfection, which is the goal of human life. So let me live, that forgetting the past, and beginning each day with new endeavor and higher resolves, I follow Christ with the ambition to overtake Him – by a perfect imitation of His divine life and divine ways.

To live the life of a follower of Christ with mediocre desires is not for me. Though I have begun like some green apprentice who is beginning to learn a trade, and is not expected or bound to perfect himself in his trade, so let me amend myself and go on improving day by day; lest making the same blunders, which though excusable in a proficient and master, I should deserve both rebuke and chastisement from Jesus Christ, the Lord and Master of all men.

Remember, be perfect as Christ is perfect.
